Geraldine Mucha dies aged 95

Geraldine Mucha, Alphonse Mucha's daughter-in-law, died at her home in Prague on Friday 12th October 2012 at the age of 95.

An accomplished composer, Geraldine moved to Prague with her husband Jiří Mucha, son of Alphonse, in 1945. When Jiří was arrested and falsely accused of espionage in 1950, Geraldine courageously defended the family heritage from the Czechoslovak secret police. Following her husband's death in 1991, she and her son John founded the Mucha Foundation to continue Jiří's work protecting and promoting Alphonse Mucha’s legacy.

Geraldine celebrated her 95th birthday in July, and in September a celebratory concert of her music was held at Prague Conservatoire, where the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra performed some of her early compositions to a large gathering of friends and admirers. She died suddenly and peacefully at home after a dinner party in her honour, surrounded by family and friends.
