Alphonse Mucha

This was the Mucha Foundation's first exhibition and the first comprehensive retrospective held in Britain for over 30 years.

Focusing on Mucha’s Parisian period and the celebrated theatrical and commercial posters produced at this time, visitors were also invited to discover the scope of Mucha’s work through a selection of jewellery, sculpture, architectural and theatrical designs, magazine covers, book jackets and illustrations, paintings, drawings and photographs.

The exhibition also presented one of Mucha’s Slav Epic canvases, The Apotheosis of the Slavs, which was particularly pertinent in light of the political climate in Central Europe at the time.
