Poster for 'Regional Exhibition at Ivančice 1913' (1912)

Mucha made this poster in 1912 for an exhibition that was due to open in his home town, Ivančice, in July 1913.

The poster depicts two Moravian girls in national costume and swallows flying round the steeple of Ivančice church, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Parish Church. The church was a landmark and the subject of one of his earliest watercolours made in 1878. In 1903, at the height of his career in Paris, Mucha revisited this subject with Memory of Ivančice, which featured swallows (symbolising home) flying round the church tower in the background.

In the event the exhibition never happened, but this poster serves as a tribute to Mucha's hometown.
