Alphonse Mucha at Palazzo dei Diamanti, Ferrara

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with Arthemisia and the Mucha Foundation, explores the biography, artistic evolution, and diverse facets of Mucha’s work. He was deeply convinced that the beauty and inspirational power of art could drive humanity’s progress and foster peace and unity among nations.

Although he is best known worldwide for his posters of the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt, Mucha was extraordinarily versatile: in addition to being a painter, draughtsman, and illustrator, he was also a photographer, set designer, interior designer, jewelry designer, and packaging designer. His works quickly became emblematic of the emerging Art Nouveau movement, contributing to its definition with a distinctive and captivating style (known as “Le style Mucha”). When he first visited the United States in 1904, the press hailed him as “the greatest decorative artist in the world.”
